Market Report

It gives us great pleasure to report that we have noticed a distinct increase in interest with regards to both renting and purchasing properties in our area. While most prospective purchasers are still arriving with a pre-determined perception of “values” we have been seeing more active interest along with several new offers being written. It remains true that the market is still extremely soft and only the properties that are perceived as being “good deals” are being visited. Still the commanding factors for most prospective purchasers are a) the perception of a “great opportunity” and b) closest to and/or the best possible ocean/water views. While it seems as though this soft market will continue through the coming months there has NEVER been a better time to purchase within Punta Mita. Large homes and beach front aside we are seeing transactional prices being what they were pre-construction 4 or 5 years ago, only now one can purchase a turn key property.

With the winter weather here there is surely no better place to be than in the Bay of Banderas and the Punta Mita area…this is Paradise! The ocean is warm and the northerly winds have started to fill in. Through December and January the North/North Westerly winds will enable those who love sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing to return to the ocean and sail to their hearts content. As we head into 2010 the thermal winds inside the bay will begin and then the fun really begins with a full calendar of regattas for sailors, windsurfers and kite surfers alike. For the surfers there have been some extremely fun swells here in the northern bay and around the Punta Mita peninsular in recent weeks, allowing us all to get in the ocean and catch a wave or two. All of our cherished surf breaks have been working offering a good variety of options for beginners, intermediates and advanced surfers alike.

Every year, hundreds of Humpback whales end their long migration as they come into the Bay of Banderas to spend the winter months. It is here, in these breeding grounds that males compete and show off for potential mates and many new calves are introduced into this world. Punta Mita Expedition’s naturalist guides can introduce you to the secrets of the Humpback world. While the humpbacks are definitely the stars of the show, keep your eyes out for other residents and winter visitors to the bay including hunting orcas, large aggregations of dolphins, sun bathing sea turtles, giant Pacific manta rays, and more. Punta Mita Surf Club

We will be meeting at Plaza Ollin every Friday at 4pm and from there we will be heading to the best break for that given day. Punta Mita Sailing Club

To begin our PM Sailing club as neither I nor Punta Mita currently has a sailing boat my suggestion is that anyone interested coordinates through me and I will be happy to help you crew on a boat during a regatta while here, or plan ahead for a future regatta. Ideally when there are enough of us in Punta Mita that like to sail we can find a boat for our club and enter regattas together as a “Punta Mita Sailing Team/Club”. Plaza Ollin Update!

Plaza Ollin will be hosting/participating in weekly (Thursday evenings) art walk nights starting January 2009. Our concept, alone with the other Village business owners, is to begin a “Punta Mita Art Walk”. These Art Walks have been successful over the years in Puerto Vallarta and there is no reason they cannot be as or more successful here. We will be commencing the “Punta Mita Art Walk” at Kim Cawood’s design center located next to Plaza Ollin, then onto Plaza Ollin where all of our stores will be open late, then onwards to the Bar Czar and finally ending at the Hotel Des Artists.

Future Events: Plaza Ollin will be hosting monthly events & cocktails throughout the coming high season. Dates for these events will be posted within our December newsletter..
