July has arrived, and with it the first of the heavy rains and stormy skies. Amazing transformations happen when the summer months arrive both on land and in the ocean. The aquatic life is vibrant and abundant at this time of year, should you wish to snorkel, scuba or try blue water fishing. The Bay of Banderas and the Pacific Ocean has more than one can possible imagine. Getting out on the ocean early and returning home to port before the evening rains arrive will make your ocean adventures more comfortable, especially if your party has some that are less familiar with being out on the ocean when the summer evening storms blow through.
Diving: The summer southern currents brought beautiful warm water, which was 82 degrees at the bottom. We have been blessed with many giant manta rays, eagle rays, turtles and more stunning aquatic life around the Marietas Islands. The visibility has improved all the way down to 40 to 50 feet on the inshore reefs and even more at times on the outer offshore dive sites. Divers and snorkelers should be taking advantage, so far the start of this summer is looking to be amazing under the ocean. Mita Expeditions offers “discover Scuba” and “advanced open water courses” for those wanting to make the most of the amazing waters around Punta Mita and beyond.
Fishing: Yellow fin tuna, blue marlins and mahi-mahi’s are here due to the warmer summer currents, which mean that the big game fishing for rod, reel and spear fishing has arrived!
